1883 Episode 5 Precap: What Will Happen Next?
The fifth episode of 1883 is titled “The Fangs of Freedom.” Brennan and James have taken the travelers through a rough. However, this win across the river did not come without casualties. Thus, the travelers will grieve their loved ones while James, Brennan, and Thomas prepare for the challenges coming ahead on a long journey to Oregon. Meanwhile, Ennis and Elsa will grow closer after crossing a major obstacle in 1883 Episode 5. They might share their first intimate moment in the upcoming episode.

The fourth episode witnessed the travelers’ efforts to cross Texas’s Brazos River. The episode opened with Elsa realizing that she is meant to be a Cowboy looking at the enormous river. She got some cowgirl clothes and appeared with her new look in front of everyone. Ennis liked Elsa’s attire, while Margaret did not disagree either.
Meanwhile, in 1883 Episode 4, James, Brennan, Thomas, and Wade decided to cross the river the next morning. They discuss all the grievances involving German who did not know how to swim. They concluded to bring the group and the animals across the river in the middle. After which, James and Brennan had a conversation about the Germans and how their will to think for themselves had been restricted for decades.
However, James had a plan to cross the river with his family during the night. He returned to the camp and informed Margaret about his plan. Then, he went to find Elsa and saw her making out with Ennis. However, his reaction surprised everyone as he treated her like an adult and left her with Ennis. The Duttons, excluding Elsa, crossed the river after some difficulties.
The Group Crosses The River Next Morning
Brennan was shocked to see James on the other side of the river. While crossing, James had laid a rope across the banks for people to use while crossing high currents. Brennan noticed that the water level had risen. So, he informed the travelers to leave unessential stuff behind, including furniture, pianos, and other items. The wagons and the horses crossed easily, but the people on foot had the most danger in the fast-flowing currents. Some of them lost the rope due to fear and anxiety and were flown away by the water.
Further, Margaret tried to save a woman who had fallen from a wagon. Margaret almost got drowned by the woman. She had to let go of the woman to save herself. She was frustrated and broke down at the shore. Meanwhile, Elsa crossed the river riding with Ennis on a horse. She was terrified to see the reality with broken wagons and dead bodies flowing in the river in 1883 Episode 4.
