In the previous episode, the United federation and Starfleet made efforts to recover from the destructive effects of the Burn. Meanwhile, in Star Trek Discovery Season 4 Episode 3, the Starfleet was concerned about the shipments of the dilithium crystals getting robbed. The USS Credence was sent on a mission to deliver the crystals to the allies of the Federation. However, the shipment was ambushed by a bunch of thieves. Luckily, Admiral Vance recognized the gang’s leader as a citizen of their ally planet Ni’Var, a rebuilt version of the Vulcan-Romulan homeland. However, the Starfleet installed a tracker on the dilithium shipment.

The head of the Qowat Milat knew the group’s leader. So, she decided to join Burnham. Rillak informed Burnham that they needed Ni’Var to be a part of the Federation due to their intellectual capabilities. Unfortunately, the scientists at Ni-Var were not convinced by the data that proved the anomaly’s existence. Moreover, Gray successfully transferred his consciousness into the synthetic body prepared by Dr. Hugh Culber. Also, Sylvia Tilly teamed with Burnham on their mission to track the dilithium.

It turned out that the thieves had set up a base at the moon and used dilithium crystals as an energy source. However, the thieves ambushed the landing party and claimed to have Latinum, a valuable substance. They explained the need for dilithium until they returned to their new homeworld. Towards the end, Burham went to check up on Book, who was still trying to process his home planet’s destruction.
