Daily Dose Of Sunshine Season 2: Netflix Shelves Hit Series! Will It Ever Return?

Daily Dose of Sunshine is undoubtedly one of the best medical dramas of 2023. As soon as it debuted, it left fans wondering about the potential sequel, Daily Dose of Sunshine Season 2. Why not? The show deeply delved into the mental health and the issues surrounding it. There’s no denying that the show changed many people’s perspectives about mental health and the problems related to it. With such a gripping storyline, many wish to see their favorite stars back in action, navigating their lives in the Psychiatric Department. But will they return? Let’s find out!

Based on the Kakao webtoon, the K-drama focuses on the struggle of a third-year nurse, Jung Da-Eun, who navigates her life after being transferred to the Psychiatric Department. Despite the series’ setup being normal and pleasant, it explored the triggering mental health issues, spreading awareness about mental health. As the show progresses, it explores how things get terrifying for the series’ protagonist, Jung Da-eun, after working in the Psychiatric Department. Amid this, the K-drama also focuses on Jung Da-eun’s romantic life.

Daily Dose Of Sunshine Season 2 Renewable Status

At the time of writing, Netflix hasn’t yet renewed Daily Dose Of Sunshine Season 2. The series debuted in early November 2023 and received massive praise from fans and critics. It gained 100% positive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.3/10 on IMDb. In addition, the show also received the Blue Dragon Series Awards 2024 for Best Drama, and Park Bo Young (who played Da Eun) was honored with the Blue Dragon Best Actress award and Actress of the Year in Cine21 Awards 2023. This is enough to justify that the series performed incredibly well.

Netflix

There’s no denying that the series beautifully portrayed the struggle related to mental health and how it can affect one’s life. Despite receiving such a huge appreciation, Netflix hasn’t yet renewed the series. Typically, the streaming giant takes a couple of months to announce its decision. However, it’s been almost eight months (as of July 2024), and the streaming giant has yet to make any announcement. But wait! The series hasn’t been canceled yet. Thus, there’s a chance that the show might return.

Netflix Might Consider Daily Dose Of Sunshine Ratings

Although the series hasn’t been renewed yet, it did incredibly well on Netflix. Initially, it struggled to join Netflix’s Top Ten list. However, just after a week, the show secured its place in the Global Top Ten. Daily Dose Of Sunshine remained on the charts for two weeks in 28 countries, including Brazil, Bolivia, Hong Kong, Chile, Mexico, and many more. Despite that, the series failed to remain in the top ten longer. That’s because other popular K-dramas like My Demon, Squid Game, Castaway Diva, and Strong Girl Nam Soon were ruling the charts back then.

Netflix Global Top Ten Chart

This further complicated the Daily Dose of Sunshine. The series also failed to create fandom in territories like the US and the UK, which will gravely affect the series’ future. But wait! Netflix not only considers the global chart but also focuses on the series popularity vs. cost chart. Since the show received huge popularity and is cost-effective, there’s a chance that the streaming giant might consider returning with Daily Dose of Sunshine Season 2. But it has yet to be revealed.

Is There Enough Source Material?

As mentioned above, the series is based on the Kakao webtoon of the same name. Although there is no information about the Webtoon, it has been concluded. Surprisingly, the K-drama has already covered all the chapters of its source material. This means there’s a scarcity of the source material, which might affect the future of the series. So, if Daily Dose Of Sunshine Season 2 returns, the series will delve into its original material. There’s no denying that the writers can come up with brilliant work. However, it sounds unnecessary.

Netflix

The series has already explored mental health issues and all their possible angles. Thus, returning with the same storyline might sound boring. The audience has already dealt with mental struggle, and they have had enough of it, and stretching the storyline will only make things dramatic. Further, the series is based on the real-life experience of Webtoon’s author, Lee Ra Ha. So, if Netflix returns with Daily Dose Of Sunshine Season 2, it won’t give justice to Ra Ha’s story, which has already come to its natural conclusion. This further hinders the chance of the second season.

Do We Need A Daily Dose Of Sunshine Season 2?

Well, the first season of Daily Dose Of Sunshine has already covered each character’s story arc. In the season finale, Da Eun’s faced another challenging situation. After learning she was a patient in the same ward and also had a mental breakdown, the patients’ families protested against her return. They didn’t want her to join her duties in the Psychiatric Department. However, her colleagues helped her and convinced the families that Da Eun’s experience and struggle could help others in their healing phase. This undoubtedly helped them, and the protestors eventually backed off their words.

After her return, Da Eun helped Byeong-Hui. She had a history of depression. However, with the nurse’s help, Byeong Hui not only recovered but also returned to her dream job. As for Da Eun’s romantic life, she finally reunited with Go Yun. They got together, and things started developing on the romantic front in their life. Amid this, the finale also focused on another character’s growth. Yu Chan, who struggled with panic disorder, finally got healed. He generally suffered with workloads as his colleagues took advantage of him by dumping their work on him.

However, in the end, he’d finally spoken to his superior and quit his toxic job. Fortunately, his superior supported him with this decision, creating a better place for Yu Chan. Meanwhile, the nurse, Min Deul-Re, freed herself from her abusive mother. She always took advantage of Deul-Re. But the nurse finally cut ties with her toxic mother, cleared her debt, and eventually returned to her work. Since the show has already concluded things positively, there’s no need for Daily Dose Of Sunshine Season 2. But if Netflix decides to return, we will update you. Stay tuned.
