King The Land Season 2: Netflix Holding Renewable For 2025

With a sweet, loving, and brilliant storyline, the first season of King The Land took the fans to a fairyland. There’s no denying that the show enchanted the fans with its saccharine tone. However, it remains to be seen whether King The Land Season 2 will return. The show has already concluded every character’s story arc, leaving no room for the next season.

Despite that, many are waiting for Netflix to make a jaw-dropping announcement. Will this announcement take place this year? While you wait for the next season, let’s look at what stops Netflix from returning with another run. King The Land follows the story of Gu family heir Gu Won, who struggles to overcome his traumatic childhood memory. However, his life entirely changes after meeting a King Hotel employee.

Although their first encounter was a little messed up, the duo eventually grew closer with the passing of time. Amid their romantic journey and personal growth, Won faces challenges because of her step-sister Hwa-Ran. She wishes to acquire Gu’s family business and kick Won out of the family empire. This battle for power eventually makes things messier as Won wishes to change the working system of King Hotel.

King The Land Season 2: Will It Ever Get Renewed?

Netflix and JTBC’s popular K-drama King The Land aired on June 17 and ran until August 6, 2023, leaving fans on the edge. The show’s sweet tone has undoubtedly helped fans escape reality. While the series’ cutely romantic side garnered positive ratings, the streaming giant and network have yet to announce King The Land Season 2.

Netflix

Well, the K-drama isn’t Netflix’s Original series, so the decision isn’t entirely in the streaming giant’s hands. As for JTBC, it hasn’t suggested its plans for the sophomore run. JTBC has come up with future developments of many series, such as the Strong Girl Series. But this time, it looks like JTBC has no plans to return with King The Land Season 2.

This is because the network typically announces its decision a couple of months after the show wraps up airing. It’s been a year, and JTBC hasn’t made any announcement. In addition, Netflix has billed the series as a “limited series,” hindering the chances of a potential season 2. So, considering this, it doesn’t seem like King The Land will return with a second season.

But King The Land Ruled The Global Charts

Despite being billed as “limited,” King The Land performed incredibly well. It received an average of 11.008% viewership on the local Korean network. Although the series debut episode only reached 5.344% viewership, the graph peaked with the sixth episode, with the finale gaining 14.534%. In addition, the series gained 8.4/10 on MyDramaList.

JTBC, Netflix

Thus, it’s safe to say that King The Land has immense popularity. That’s why many wish the series to return with King The Land Season 2. In fact, Netflix had also considered the series to return with more than one season. Initially, the show wasn’t billed as a “limited” series. It has ruled the Netflix Global Top Ten TV chart since its debut.

The show remained in the top ten for 11 weeks in 55 countries. That’s quite huge for a K-drama. After Squid Game, who ruled Netflix’s Global charts for 22 weeks, King The Land acquired the second position of the most-watched K-drama, giving tough competition to My Demon. Yet, Netflix has no plans for King The Land Season 2.

King The Land Ending Explained

Alert: King The Land’s finale spoilers follow

In the finale, Gu Won decided to propose to Sa-Rang. However, he canceled his decision after Sa-Rang revealed she wanted to quit the job. Initially, Won blamed himself for her decision, but he later discovered that Sa-Rang aspire to start her own hotel. After watching her determination to embark on a new journey, Won postponed his proposal plans and decided to help her.

He even promised Sa-Rang that he would always be by her side. The following day, Sa-Rang officially quit, explaining to Chairman Gu that she would never disappoint him. A sad goodbye followed as everyone wished her the best. As for Won, he gifted her new shoes to mark the beginning of her new journey. With Sa-Rang’s time at King Hotel ending, Gu Won revamped the system.

He proposed upgrading the basic rooms to “everyone was a VIP” now. In fact, he provided additional services to the staff and promoted Sang-Sik to the hotel’s strategic planning department manager. Meanwhile, Sa-Rang found the perfect location for her hotel. With her grandmother’s help, she started working on her own startup.

Gu Won visited Sa-Rang before her hotel opened to help her. He even surprised her with a sweet surprise. While the pair had a beautiful start, Sa-Rang’s hotel became a huge success. As for Gu Won, he struggled to balance his own work and traveling to meet Sa-Rang. This worried her. However, Won promised to stay by her side no matter what.

As the episode progressed, it showed that Won finally proposed to Sa-Rang, who eventually said ‘yes.’ Later, they celebrated her birthday when Won shared his plans to marry her. On their wedding day, the couple finally received the blessing of their loved ones.

Gu Won’s father was also present, along with their family and friends. The series ended with a sweet epilogue, where Sa-Rang helped Gu Won pick his outfit. While this showed that the couple was together, Sa-Rang shied from kissing Won as she was concerned about the people watching them behind the camera before the camera rolled.

Do We Need King The Land Season 2?

The show has already covered every character’s storyline. Gu Won and Sa-Rang ended up together. They are happily married and even receive blessings from Won’s father. As for Gu Won’s step-sister, Hwa-Ran, she finally managed to interact with her son Ji-Hu. In the end, she convinced him to stay in South Korea instead of leaving for America.

While things weren’t good between them, Gu Won’s advice did help her reconcile with her estranged son. Ultimately, it also brought Hwa-Ran and Gu Won together, solving their indifference. Thus, there’s no point in returning with King The Land Season 2.

Netflix

But if the series gets a miraculous renewal, then it’s likely that the show will explore Won and Sa-Rang’s marriage life and how they deal with their personal and professional business. But it’s unlikely to happen, considering the show has naturally ended; there’s no point in stretching the storyline. That’s why it doesn’t look like we need King The Land Season 2.
