Sweet Tooth Season 4: Boss Says There’s Future Beyond Final Season

After its debut, Netflix’s post-apocalyptic drama Sweet Tooth took the world by storm. However, with the series wrapping up the interesting saga of human-animal hybrid children with the third season, many are curious to know whether there will be more to this world. Could it return with Sweet Tooth Season 4 or a spin-off?

Many questions have been running through people’s minds, and series creator Jim Mickle is ready to answer them. Recently, the series creator shared some hints suggesting the show could return. So, without further ado, let’s head to know the show’s future.

Based on Jeff Lemire’s comic series, the show focuses on the aftermath of “The Great Crumble,” a viral pandemic that wiped out the world’s human population. After this event, hybrid babies with animal body parts and other characteristics roamed the world. Since many humans fear them, Gus, a part-deer hybrid, and other hybrid babies become their target, creating complications for Gus and others. As the series progresses, it explores the challenges these kids face to maintain a safe place to live.

Is Sweet Tooth Season 4 Renewed?

The third season debuted on June 6, 2024, and it’s been four months, but Netflix hasn’t yet announced the next run. Typically, the streaming giant announces the series’ fate within a few months. However, this isn’t the case with Sweet Tooth. That’s because the third season was already announced as the final series. Just a month before the third season premiere, the streamer announced the show would end with Season 3.

While the series has already been concluded, there’s hope for Sweet Tooth Season 4. In an interview with Screen Rant, the show’s creator, Jim Mickle, shared his plans for the next run. Mickle says he has talked with the streamer about returning with more Sweet Tooth-related content. He added that it would be very different from the current state of the show, as the fantasy world has already reached its natural conclusion.

So, bringing the series for another run could mean making some changes within the fantasy world while staying true to its source material. Mickle also said they have ideas of what Sweet Tooth Season 4 would look like.

Although it would be somewhat different from Jeff’s source material, it could perfectly fit in his world. The creator added that he has those plans and has been planning them for a while. However, the decision to return with Season 4 is in the audience’s and Netflix’s hands. But if you ask him, he’s happy to continue the series as long as possible.

Will There Be Sweet Tooth Season 4?

As mentioned above, the creator already has plans to return. However, the decision to renew is solely in Netflix’s and the audience’s hands. Interestingly, the series performed incredibly well on the platform. Shortly after the third season’s debut, it became a massive hit. Sweet Tooth reached Netflix’s Global Top Ten in 90 countries. It remained in the top ten for 4 weeks. But it isn’t the first time. The first two seasons of Sweet Tooth were also well-received and reached the global top ten within the first week of its debut.

In addition, the series has maintained positive reviews over its run. Overall, the show received 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. The first season amassed a fresh 97% on the critic aggregator site, while the third season received 100% among critics and 79% approval reception among fans. This hints that there’s a chance for Sweet Tooth Season 4. There’s no denying that fans are curious to see more of Sweet Tooth, and this reception hints that the series can make it to four or more seasons.

What Could Happen In Sweet Tooth Season 4?

The third season has already wrapped up everything, leaving no room for Sweet Tooth Season 4. However, the showrunner Jim Mickle told CBR they could return with a new tale. The fourth season can focus on Old Man Gus, Becky, Big Man Jepperd, and the Alaskan alliance working together to take down evil Zhang. Gus burned down the magical tree in the third season after his mother, Birdie, died.

Now that Earth has withdrawn the Sick and left the hybrids to live on their own terms, a revival series can focus on the new challenges these hybrids face. Gus, his wife Wendy, and his family members are now living peacefully in Yellowstone, where they interact with other characters such as Theo. The fourth season can also focus on how the deaths of Pubba and Birdie could affect Gus.

He will face some challenges dealing with such situations. On the other hand, with human civilization-ending, they will come up with another mission to hunt hybrids to find a cure for their disease. While the creator has revealed that things will change in the fourth season, comic creator Jeff Lemire has already concluded the source material by bringing a more aggressive Gus fighting against the humans to save his world.

He will use a hybrid army to kill those humans who try to break the borders. If the show returns with this storyline, it could focus on how Gus and the other hybrids work to save their home. However, it will also test his moral bearing and how his mother’s death affected him gravely.

It Could Return With A Spin-Off Series

There’s also a possibility that the show could return with a spin-off series. The three-season show focused on Gus and other hybrids’ struggle to survive. However, it hasn’t yet shared anything about Alaska and how Gus found the tree. So, there’s a chance the creator can return to narrate the Alaskan Saga, where Gus met the Snow Fox Girl, Nuka. This leads them to dig deeper into the hybrid children and how they are different from humans.

Netflix

The spin-off series can also focus on an evil cult that uses humans as experimental mice. This could delve deeper into the themes of genocide and colonization, ultimately opening a door for Nuka to become a Chosen One. It will focus more on the darker level of the show as it tells the tale of protection and sacrifice. Gus and Becky will work on strengthening their army and could also focus on how the battlefield makes things challenging for them.

Sweet Tooth Season 4 Release Date

The show hasn’t been announced yet. So, it remains unclear when the series will be released. However, the series creator has already confirmed that the show might return sooner or later. So, if it gets greenlit earlier in 2025, it will take almost a year to wrap up production. Considering this, we expect Sweet Tooth Season 4 to be released in the fall of 2026. This is all for now.
