Curious to know how things will change in the upcoming installment? Then, keep reading!
Created by John Linson and Taylor Sheridan, the show delves into the story of the Dutton family. The family is the sole owner of the largest ranch in Montana. However, they struggle to maintain peace as many developers and the bordering Broken Rock Indian Reservations have their eyes on the ranch, creating trouble for the Dutton family. As the show progresses, it explores the fair share struggle of Dutton family members as they fight to protect their land from the others.
Yellowstone Season 6 Is Back!
That’s right! A few years ago, sources confirmed that Paramount intended to wrap up Yellowstone’s story with Season 5B. While the series was ready to bid farewell to the lead character, John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner), things have changed. Season 5B, originally announced as the last installment, set to release on November 10, 2024, wouldn’t mark the end of the Dutton saga. That’s right!
Previously, Paramount announced they planned to return with a sequel series starring Matthew McConaughey. However, McConaughey never signed the project for an unknown reason, and the sequel spinoff was laid off. After this incident, the streaming platform returned with another plan. Paramount has finally confirmed they are eyeing Yellowstone Season 6—but with a twist!
The show won’t return with the Dutton family. Instead, it will focus on a new family. The sixth season will likely be in conjunction with The Madison, bringing back Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox. It will be set in the Yellowstone universe but focus on the Clyburns family. The news came as a surprise for the fans, who could not imagine a series without Kevin Costner.
However, per reports, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser won’t return as well. According to the source, Reilly and Hauser had been in talks about Season 6 for months. However, nothing has been confirmed about this. As for The Madison, the show will follow Season 5B of Yellowstone.

Why Is Kevin Costner Not Returning?
Kevin Coster, the lead star of Yellowstone, won’t appear in Season 6. In fact, Sheridan originally planned to conclude the Dutton saga this year without its leading patriarch because of the feud between Costner and Sheridan. The actor is battling with the co-creator over contracts and filming schedules. Their feud has taken a dramatic turn, as the reports suggest that the actor won’t play a part in the final episodes of Yellowstone Season 5B. That means the series will wrap up the Dutton saga without its patriarch.
However, it was reported that Costner’s team had asked Sheridan to bring back the actor so he could finish his arc. Unfortunately, he won’t return. It remains unclear how things will wrap up, whether Sheridan will conclude the patriarch arc on-screen, or whether Costner will remain a part of the series. In addition, Costner has stated that he was supposed to be paid for the potential sixth and seventh seasons of Yellowstone. But worse, the dispute created a mess.
Now, he is no longer a part of the series. As per the reports, Costner’s team has been working on solving this dispute. However, Sheridan has no interest in dealing with the situation. This has made the behind-the-scenes battle even worse. While it remains unclear whether Costner’s character will be killed in the fifth season, his journey has probably ended in the show.
Yellowstone Season 6 Cast: Who Will Return?
As mentioned above, Costner won’t play a part in Yellowstone Season 6. Since the series will focus on a new family, it doesn’t seem like the Dutton family will return. So the show might bid farewell to Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton), Wes Bentley (James Michael “Jamie” Dutton), and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler). Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton might not return as well. The production committee has yet to reveal the cast details of the show. However, Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox will indeed return.
Besides them, the series executive producers John Linson and Sheridan will return for Yellowstone Season 6. In addition, Art Linson, Bob Yari, David C. Glasser, Michael Friedman, Stephen Kay, Keith Cox, and Christina Voros will also return as the series executive producers. Paramount Global Content Distribution distributes the series.

Yellowstone Season 6: What Will Happen Next?
The last we saw, everyone in the Dutton family was ready to kill each other. In the midseason finale, Wes Bentley’s Jamie decided to kill his father to grab his governor seat. While he mapped his revenge, John and Beth’s conflict escalated. Things turned out more violent when Beth broke into Jamie’s place. She bashed his head in with a rock just to threaten him that she was more capable of finishing things up.
After this incident, Jamie decided to kill himself. The conflict later escalated, leading to the series turning out more violent. While Season 5B has yet to be released, it seems like the series will kill off all the characters who won’t return for Yellowstone Season 6. Costner might be killed off- considering his feud with the series co-creator. Meanwhile, Bentley won’t return as well.
That’s because the rumors suggest he hasn’t signed the contract to return for another season. So, the show might only bring back Reilly, Luke, and Houser. Although the three of them might survive the violent events of Season 5B, the sixth season will be set to explore the new family.
As of now, the production committee hasn’t yet revealed the synopsis of Yellowstone Season 6. However, it’s likely that the series will shift its focus from the vengeful act of the Dutton family to the Clyburns family. The family might have some connection with the parent series. Although things aren’t cleared now, we will update you.
