Netflix’s Carmen Sandiego is an animated action series that originally premiered on the streaming platform in January 2019. The series created by Duane Capizzi follows the titular character Carmen who steals from the rich to help the poor. On adventures, Carmen is joined by her friends player, Ivy, and Zack. 

Will There be Carmen Sandiego Season 5?

The entire fourth season of Carmen Sandiego was released on Netflix on January 15, 2021. But unfortunately, we have some heartbreaking news for the fans who have been waiting for Carmen Sandiego Season 5. It has been confirmed that the series will not return with the fifth season. 

According to Distractify, the makers renewed the animated action series for a fourth season in October 2020. However, in December 2020, only two months after the announcement, Carmen Sandiego’s official Twitter handle confirmed that the fourth season will be the last season of the series. The tweet said, “To the end of the line. The fourth and final season of #CarmenSandiego premieres January 15, on @netflix! @netflixfamily.” 

Morover, the creators answered a fan’s query about the show being canceled. According to them, the series is coming to an end rather than being canceled. Although the news of the series ending is sad for fans, they are satisfied that it has reached its natural conclusion.

Carmen Sandiego Season 5 Plot!

Towards the end of the fourth season, the showrunners tried to wrap up all the ongoing storylines. At the end of the season, Carmen and her buddies were successful in beating V.I.L.E., who are then put under A.C.M.E.’s custody. Even though she wants to carry on fighting for what’s right. She eventually embarks on a journey to discover the mystery behind her past. Carmen left a note for Zack and Ivy. In the letter, she disclosed her last words for the two. After two years, crime befalls the city yet again, but Carmen takes care of it and escapes into the night.

The conclusion of the series was definite and so satisfying that it is hard to predict what will happen if the show returns with Carmen Sandiego Season 5. But if we have to anticipate, our guess is that some new threat over the city with force Carmen to return and fight to save her beloved town of San Diego. There might also be a spinoff to explore different characters’ stories set in the same universe.

How It All Started?

Surprisingly, Carmen Sandiego’s career began with very different ambitions for the first video game. The series, which Broderbund programmer Dane Bigham created, was supposed to be a basic text-based police and robbers game. However, the Apple II was becoming increasingly popular among both home users and educational institutions at the time. The game’s early prototypes even differed greatly from the renowned Carmen Sandiego figure.

According to a Computer History article, the series began as “the game ‘Six Crowns of Henry VIII,’ in which players followed the Tudor King across London.” Even though the primary character had changed, the “chase adventure” theme remained. However, thanks to Gary and Doug Carlston, co-founders of Broderbund, the company’s development shifted to more towards an educational base.

She was shocked to find a tattoo peeking out of one of the women’s tanks top. After that, Leanne rushed back to the kitchen and ran into Sean, who spilled a dish on her.

A Mom Tries To Snoop Around In Leanne Room

One of the mothers snuck into Leanne’s room while she was cleaning herself in the bathroom. Leanne confronted the mother, who was peeking under her bed. The mother claimed that she was not snooping around and was looking for a pacifier her kid had dropped. Julian and Vera showed up in Leanne’s room after they heard the discussions. The mother pulled out the pacifier from her pocket and pretended to have just picked it up. Jullian advised Leanne that she was overreacting.

Elsewhere, Leanne returned to the living room to find everyone was gone except Mr. Smiley. Leanne was convinced that Mr. Smiley was a cult member and threatened him with a knife when he did not stop approaching her. Soon after, all the women walked into the scene. Leanne demanded Mr. Smiley show his back, but there was no tattoo on it. She apologized to Mr. Smiley while Dorothy apologized to the moms.

Moreover, Dorothy raised a toast to motherhood. Suddenly, a lot of bees came rushing out of the chimney, and everyone ran out of the house. The exterminators believed that the beehive must have fallen during the installment of cameras, but Julian suspected Leanne. Further, Leanne brushed her wet hair while Dorothy admitted that she felt cursed. Leanne replied that everything happens as it’s supposed to be. However, Dorothy was uncertain about Leanne’s remark in Servant Season 3 Episode 2.

Kim’s Convenience Season 6: Spinoff In Making!

The fifth season of Kim’s Convenience dropped on Netflix on June 2, 2021. However, the season premiered on CBC on January 19, 2021. And as far as the sixth season is concerned, we have some really bad news for the fans. It is reported that the network has canceled the series ahead of Kim’s Convenience Season 6. The decision was surprising as CBC previously confirmed the fifth and sixth seasons together in March 2020. 

The sudden cancelation of Kim’s Convenience Season 6 has caused outrage among the fans. Even actor Simu Liu has expressed his anger towards the cancelation. In an interview, Mr. Kim star Paul Sun-Hyung Lee stated that he tried to convince creator Ins Choi to return. But Ins “ghosted him” instead, which deeply hurt the actor. 

However, we also have some good news for fans who are left heartbroken after the cancelation of Kim’s Convenience Season 6. According to reports, the CBC network has already started working on Kim’s Convenience spinoff series titled “Strays.” The new show will be based in Hamilton and focus on Nicole Power’s Shannon. Sho broke up with Jung in the last episode of the fifth season. As per reports, Strays has started filming for the first season, and it will premiere on CBC around late 2022.

Kim’s Convenience Season 6: What Could’ve Happened?

The fifth season of Kim’s Convenience ended with a low-key note. Kimchee and Shannon had dinner with Kim and company at their place. After dinner, the Kims say goodnight to their guests. Later on, Mr. and Mrs. Kim put the CLOSED sign on their shop and go to bed after turning off the lights. In the end, it seemed that the showrunners tried to include a sense of conclusion in the season. Yet, it feels like the ending was rushed, and there is still a lot to tell in the story.

What Did Simu Liu Say About Kim’s Convenience Season 6?

Canadian actor Simu Liu, who plays Jung Kim in the series is not happy with the cancelation of the series. And he has voiced his discontent multiple times. After the news broke, Liu first talked about the cancelation of Kim’s Convenience in March 2021. He posted his remarks on Twitter. Simu stated that he was heartbroken as he was expecting the series to come back for a sixth season. He wanted the show to wrap up Jung’s story arc appropriately. He also expressed his wish to join the writing team for the show. 

Simu Liu felt that Jung and Appa’s relationship was one of the biggest unresolved storylines in the series, as they both have had long journeys of healing. Jung left his family home after he got captured by police and sent to the juvenile detention center. He did not set foot at Kim’s Convenience or even talk to his father for several years. However, he secretly preserved a relationship with Umma and Janet. Towards the end of the fifth season, Jung and Appa developed an indecisive connection, and it’s even implied that Jung may take over the store after Mr. and Mrs. Kim’s retirement.

Furthermore, in April 2021, when the show aired the fifth season finale, Liu took to Twitter to voice his opinions about the series. He tweeted, “On the eve of what is now to be the series finale of Kim’s Convenience, I hoped I’d be at a point where I could speak about it with a clear head. But the truth is I’m still pretty f**king angry. Hours of therapy are sure to follow. You all deserved a proper ending.” After the show, the actor went on to play the first Asian superhero, Shang Chi, in Marvel Cinematic Superhero.

The Show Set In A Real Store!

Kim’s Convenience is shot on an interior set in Toronto. However, the outdoor scenes are shot on Queen Street East inside a real convenience store called Mimi Variety. The owner requested that the Kim’s Convenience signs should be left up permanently, and the store’s name be altered after being featured on the show. Because ‘Mimi’ was not a real person, there were no sentimental attachments to the name.
