Back in 2018, Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio came up with a mind-blowing political thriller series, Bodyguard. The show achieved greater heights which left fans questioning the future of Bodyguard Season 2. However, we have bittersweet news for the series fans. BBC One has yet to announce the future of the show. Well, it’s been almost five years, and still, the network remained mum. But it seems like things will soon change as the creator has recently opened up about potential Bodyguard Season 2.

Created by Jed Mercurio, the series revolves around Police Sergeant David Budd a British Army war veteran who’s currently fighting PTSD. Now he’s assigned as the principal protection officer for the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch of London’s Metropolitan Police Service. He works to maintain the security of Home Secretary Julia Montague. But he deals with several difficult tasks in order to stay away from controversy.

Will It Ever Return?

Back in 2018, Mercurio teased that it was just beginning, and they started discussing a potential second season with the BBC. Richard Madden teased in November 2018 that he’d decided to meet with Mercurio to discuss Bodyguard Season 2. He showed his excitement for what holds for David. But they were waiting for an official announcement. Shortly in 2019, the BBC declared that they were in talks and going through the show’s logistics.

Later, Madden told The Hollywood Reporter that they were speaking about the potential second season. But they want to give at least a year to work on what possible future holds for the show. While fans waited eagerly for any official announcement, Mercurio addressed the situation in 2020. The CEO of World Productions, Simon Heath, called Bodyguard a big beast to come up with the drama. But he feels confident about bringing the show back.

Speaking of its viewership, the series gained a 93% positive response on Rotten Tomatoes, while it gained 79 out of 100 on Metacritic. Apart from this, the series became the most-watched TV drama back in 2018. In fact, it broke the records as a 17.1 million audience viewed the show. Thus being the blockbuster hit, there’s a chance that Bodyguard will return for the second season.

Bodyguard Season 2: Who Will Return?

Given that Richard Madden‘s David Budd survived at the end of the first season, we expect Madden to return. Other possible returnees include Sophie Rundle as Vicky Budd, Gina McKee as Cmdr Anne Sampson, and Paul Ready as Rob MacDonald. Nina Toussaint-White as DS Louise Rayburn might also return with Ash Tandon as DCI Deepak Sharma. Additionally, Vincent Franklin as Mike Travis may return with Richard Riddell as Tom Fenton and Michael Schaeffer as Richard Longcross.

Apart from them, Matt Stokoe as Luke Aiken will join David Westhead as John Vosler and Stuart Bowman as Stephen Hunter-Dunn. Stephanie Hyam as Chanel Dyson will also join Nicholas Gleaves as Roger Penhaligon and Pippa Haywood as Chief Superintendent Lorraine Craddock.

Has Production Begun?

As of now, BBC One has yet to announce the show’s future. The network hasn’t greenlit the show. But deeming its viewership, we can expect soon the network will reveal its decision. Speaking of its production status, the series is currently in its development stage as per the source. It further hints that Bodyguard Season 2 is on the cards.

Bodyguard Season 2: What Will Happen Next?

In the first season finale, Luke Aitkens and his goons killed Julia Montague in order to stop her from becoming Prime Minister. However, he was jailed along with Lorraine Craddock, a bent copper who sold Julia’s itineraries. Further, would-be train bomber Nadia will work on her terrorist cohorts to build more bombs for the future. Julia’s death left David hopeless, and he sought help for his mental issues. Unfortunately, not yet. BBC One has yet to announce the show’s future. However, the show was issued as a miniseries, hinting it won’t return for the second season. However, the series creator revealed that they are interested in telling fresher stories to the audience. So they are considering running the show in an anthology format. But he admitted that they are currently looking for the audience response based on which they will decide the show’s future.

The series actress Rakie Ayola also confirmed that they hope for the second run. Based on the success of the series, everyone is expecting at least one more installment in the future. Speaking about its ratings, The Pact has received a positive response. It gained 7.9/10 positive responses on IMDb, while on Rotten Tomatoes, it gained 92% positive ratings. The first season focused on Jack Evan’s murder investigation. The four friends, Anna, Nancy, Louie, and Cat, decided to give Jack a lesson, so they left him in the woods. But the twist appeared when Nancy took the blame to help her friends get out of it. We expect the second season to unfold a truly different story now that they have solved the mystery.

Currently, it remains unclear who will return for the second run. The creator has already revealed that the show will follow the anthology style. It means anything could happen. The third season of CBS’s comedy drama series debuted on September 20, 2021. And the season came to an end on May 23, 2022. As you know, it has only been a few days since the third season’s premiere. The show earned 6.7/10 positive ratings on IMDb and 46% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the show gained disappointing domestic overnight ratings. It gained 2.6 million viewers in its premiere, the lowest rating on the network since 2015. Thus the reason behind its cancellation doesn’t seem surprising at all.

Boss Talked About Cancelation

The series creator Gurinder Chadha talked to Express.co.uk about the series cancellation. She stated the show had a massive following, and some of the figures were extremely high. She revealed that the show also had a largely Asian audience. Gurinder added that she knew this because the Asian audience was writing to her on social media. She can’t deny that they loved the show and enjoyed it. She believed that the reason behind the series’ cancelation was Love Island.

Beecham House aired on Sunday at the same time as Love Island, and people now love to watch reality shows. So it failed to catch the audience’s attention due to the reality show. She further added that the people in Britain are tired of period dramas now. So it could be the reason behind the drop in rating. However, the show later aired in the US, and the showrunner believed it could create better in the States.

Chadha Hopes To Return With Beecham House Season 2

Although ITV canceled the show, the series creator hopes to return with the second season. An ITV spokeswoman told Deadline back in October 2019 that Chadha was having conversations with the broadcaster about the potential second season. Despite her attempt, there’s no such update about Beecham House Season 2 after it aired on PBS.

How Michael Wrapped Up Bull Series Finale

In the series finale, Dr. Jason Bull decided to give up his career to help his client in a suspected murder. Bull took Ed Wilson’s side and the apartment owner, who was charged with killing many tenants with carbon monoxide. So Bull decided to help his client. But in the end, it became clear that Ed purposely planned to kill one of his renters, who learned Ed murdered his college student years ago. However, Bull ensured him that he wouldn’t reveal his dark secret, and Ed revealed about killing the young woman. But Bull couldn’t call the police as his Trial Analysis Corp was representing Ed.

Bull realized that he couldn’t do anything against Ed. In the finale, he learned that the jury in the case decided to acquit his guilty client. Instead of seeing Ed free from all the charges, Bull made a career-killing choice. He broke into the juror’s room and revealed that Ed was to blame. So soon, a mistrial took place that allowed the prosecutors to try Ed once again. Justice prevailed, and Bull left TAC that Marissa Morgan bought from him.
