Ted Lasso is an American sports dramedy that follows the story of a college football coach who was unexpectedly recruited to coach AFC Richmond. Despite his lack of experience coaching soccer, the team’s owner, Rebecca Welton, hired him to cause the team’s downfall so she could take revenge on her former husband. However, instead of meeting Rebecca’s goals, Lasso’s humor and personality brought changes. Lasso not only won over her but also the team and all those who remained skeptical about his appointment.
Is Ted Lasso Season 4 Happening?
The third season of Ted Lasso premiered back on March 15, 2023, and wrapped up airing on May 31, 2023, leaving many to wonder what is next for the show. While the showrunner never discussed his plans for the next run, Warner Bros. TV is planning to return. In an interview with Variety, Warner Bros. TV CEO Channing Dungey teased that the series’s revival has been in the air since it ended.
Dungey said that they have been in talks since last year. He said the third season left the door open for the next season. “I mean, you watched the finale; there’s a little bit of a door that could be kicked back open if need be,” said Dungey. He said there’s the possibility to return with Ted Lasso Season 4. Everyone loves Ted Lasso, and they have high hopes that the show could return.
Dungey added that they are looking for some opportunity and will return once they can make another season. Although the team is in talks, nothing is official. The series is undoubtedly a massive success on Apple TV. Throughout its run, the show has remained the flagship series of the streaming platform, gaining critical ratings from the audience as well as critics.
The show received 8.8 stars out of 10 on IMDb. Meanwhile, it gained 90% positive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite that, the series didn’t return with Ted Lasso Season 4 after the end of last year’s third season. However, one thing to note is that the series has never been canceled. That’s right! The show ended on its conclusive nature, and Apple TV+ never canceled the series. So, the chances of its return are high.

Creator Envisioned It As Three Seasons Deal
While Ted Lasso remained the most popular series on the platform, the show was always intended to continue with a three-season arc. Brett Goldstein, who played Roy Kent, told the Sunday Times that they wrote the third season as it was the last. Brendan Hunt, who played Coach Beard, also told EW they always meant to end the series with three seasons.
He believed it would be pretty cool if they just stuck to their plans to end the show with three seasons, irrespective of how much people liked it. Hunt added, “But even as committed to that idea as Jason [Sudeikis] may have been, none of us were prepared to the degree to which people love this show.”
Generally, shows that consist of abusive language don’t leave a lasting impact on the viewers, leading the cast members and creators to believe that ending the series with a third season was better. However, Hunt said he’s happy to return if Jason wants to. Meanwhile, Jason had always envisioned the series as a three-season arc.
After the show concluded on Apple TV+, the series cast and creatives spoke to Deadline as it was the final season. Jason said Ted Lasso Season 3 is the end of the story they wanted to tell. He knew the folks would want more and remain curious to see how things would move. However, Jason believed ending the show with the third season would be better. He added that having Season 3 is flattering.
But Creators Are Ready To Return With Ted Lasso Season 4
Although Jason and others said they wanted to conclude the series with the third season, sources said they are ready to return. Jason Sudeikis told US Open 2024 that he heard people saying that there is Ted Lasso Season 4, as it was announced on a website. He said he was excited to finally learn about it but didn’t know what to say about the fourth season.
The creator also said that he hadn’t talked with the cast and crew members of the show. However, he could positively say that everyone loved the experience. Juno Temple also had a similar reaction at the 2024 Emmys. Temple said that she heard about this and didn’t know whether the series would be returning. However, she was excited about Ted Lasso Season 4 and would want to return.
The series co-creator, Bill Lawrence, also said they had no clue about the series’ next run. However, if “Jason feels like doing, and whatever his decision is,” everyone would happily join him for another run. Bill said that Jason wasn’t only the actor of the series but also the head writer.
So, he is the person behind the popular series and can craft things perfectly. If the show returns for another season, they can tell the story of Lasso moving to a foreign country with his young kids. Undoubtedly, it will be a big deal for him, and fans will get to learn how he deals with the new challenges.
